What Does the # Sign Mean on Facebook?
Within Facebook you’ll often see the # sign, also called the hash tag, number sign, or the pound symbol. Facebook doesn’t actually have a pound sign feature itself. Instead, what you’re seeing are people who have posted a message on Twitter and at the same time have updated Facebook with this same message.
A great example of how this gets done is by using a free program called HootSuite. Hootsuite allows anyone to update their status on social networks like Twitter, Facebook and LinkedIn all at the same time.
If you’re making an update using Hootsuite and you want to make reference to a certain hash tag on Twitter then within your status update you’d use the # symbol. Since you’re also updating LinkedIn and Facebook at the same time, these hash tags simply get carried over to the other social networks.
So just know that whenever you do see that symbol, what you’re seeing is someone who is updating Twitter using a hash tag and has updated Facebook at the same time.

Nearly everyone on the planet has heard about Facebook and smart businesses; whether that be online or off are using Facebook as a way to connect with their customers on a more personal basis.

Take THAT Google+! Facebook Releases Facebook for Business…
With Google+ gaining in members and some Facebooker’s defecting, Facebook knew it had to bring out some big guns, ones that Google+ isn’t yet prepared to deal with…businesses.
Since Google+ first came onto the scene, now just over a month old, their project manager has requested that people hold off on creating business profiles but he also hints at what’s to come. I’m yet to discover how this is going to relate to Google Places but stay tuned.
Knowing this, Facebook has released their Facebook for Business…whether they were sitting on this project just waiting for the right time to pounce, is unknown but all that said, it’s now available to small and mid-sized local business owners.
It essentially consolidates and teaches you how to “Build a Presence” by creating a Facebook Page, claiming it, and how to make your website social.
It also talks about engaging your community, building relationships, getting insights on what people are doing, getting the word out with ads, and so on.
One of the nice things about both Facebook and Google+ essentially grappling for your advertising dollars is that if you’re a business owner it really doesn’t matter; they’ll keep duking it out with each other, which can be kind of entertaining to watch, but in the end local business owners win either way.
