Becoming an affiliate marketer is one of the best ways to bring in a little (or a lot) of extra income for yourself depending upon how much work you put into it. An affiliate is someone, like you, who signs up with an affiliate program to sell products and services that are provided by other companies. When you make a sale, depending upon the affiliate program, you can make a percentage of the commission from the sale or you can earn a flat dollar amount per sale.
When you’re first researching companies to become an affiliate of, you’ll want to keep in mind a few things:
- Be familiar with the product or service you’re promoting. This will give you an edge over other affiliate marketers who aren’t as well-versed in the product or service you’re offering.
- Understand the terms of the program. Each company has different terms when it comes to what they’ll pay you and how often you’ll receive a check from them.
- You’ll be able to better suggest the product or service if you yourself have used it. If you can afford to purchase the product first this will also give you an upper hand over other affiliates since you’ll have information that they themselves didn’t bother to find out.
Being an affiliate has many advantages as well. You don’t need to keep an inventory yourself and you don’t have to deal with any support issues that arise from the sale of the product. Your only job is to promote the product.
But, being an affiliate does not mean that you simply rush out and start plastering advertisements everywhere online. People appreciate real content. This ties into you knowing the industry the product is in that you’ll be promoting. You’ll be able to write quality content about the industry and then offer suggestions to your site visitors as to what products you recommend.

Dynamic pricing is the process of increasing the price of a product little by little over a short amount of time.
Let’s say that you’re going to sell a digital book for the price of $25. Using dynamic pricing you would increase this price in small increments over the course of a few days as such:
- Day 1: $25
- Day 3: $30
- Day 5: $35
- Day 7: $40
And so on until you reach your top dollar threshold.
Obviously when people purchase a product, they want it as cheap as they can get it. If you’re offering a great product at a very low introductory price, then you’ll find many people want to purchase at this price. You will get amazing results from using this idea just by itself.
But here’s the caveat…you absolutely must adhere to your own standards. You cannot use this tactic simply to get more sales and your asking price for the product must end up at the fair market value of the product.
For example, if you’re selling a 15-page report and asking $67 for it, you won’t see many people rushing to purchase that from you. If, however, you are selling a 198 page digital book for $67 and offering it at $37 for the first few days, then you’ve got yourself a winner.
Here are some benefits to using this kind of approach. And for the record if you think this is unique or questionable, think again. How often did you get bombarded with Christmas advertising this past holiday season? “Get in before the hours of 6 AM – 8 AM and get everything for 60% off!” or “Act today and we’ll throw in whatever“.”
- Everyone wants to get in at the lowest price possible so your customers will definitely take notice.
- They’ll know that they need to act fast or else they’ll lose the opportunity to purchase the product at a lower price.
- It is the best way to create an immediate call to action. A call to action is where you tell your customer’s what exactly it is that they have to do in order to get the lower price.
- It also creates a sense of anxiety in your customer. If they want a lower price they’ll have to act now and if they don’t, they’ll end up paying more for the product.
As we’ve touched on already, this is not something new in marketing. It’s a great way to get people introduced to your product while at the same time offering them an incentive to purchase.
Using Product Recommendations To Increase Your Bottom Line

In affiliate marketing, there are many ways that you can increase your earnings and one way to do so is by product recommendations.
Many marketers already know that one of the most effective ways to market a product is to use product recommendations.
If you’ve built up trust with your website visitors, then they’ll be more than happy to check out any recommendations you offer but you need to tread carefully. If you all of sudden start promoting everything under the sun by recommendation, your credibility will wear very thin. This is especially true when recommendations look exaggerated and don’t hold much water.
Don’t be afraid to mention things that you don’t like about a product or service. Rather than say people away from the product, your honest opinion will make your recommendation more realistic and will in turn, increase your credibility.
Furthermore, if your visitors are really interested in what you are offering, they will be more than delighted to learn what is good about the product, what is not so good, and how the product will benefit them.
When you do recommend a product, some things to keep in mind are:
- Keep your recommendation true and factual. If you have indeed used the product, then say so, tell them what you liked and didn’t like about the product. If you haven’t used the product, then don’t lie and say that you did.
- If your visitors feel that you are indeed an expert in your niche, they are more inclined to make a purchase based on your recommendation.
One way to help establish your expertise in a certain area is to show proof that what you are promoting in fact works as it says it will. Offer unique and new solutions that your visitors couldn’t get anyplace else and display testimonials and endorsements from well respected people in the same field.
Whatever you do, don’t hype up anything. It’s far better to remain low-key and confident than to scream for attention by stating things like “BEST PRODUCT ANYWHERE!” or “Never Before Seen System Makes You Thousands!”. Not only does this scream hype but it also sounds incredibly unprofessional.
Remember as well that your site visitors are not stupid. They are most likely experts in their field and already know a few things you do. If you can back up your claims with hard data and facts, they’ll gladly pull out their credit cards and pay whatever amount you’re asking. If you can’t back up your data however, they’ll know that they can simply go someplace else (most likely your competition) and find a better product there.
Another thing to remember when recommending a product is to offer up some promotional freebies. People typically expect to get bonuses and freebies with a product that you own but rarely do they receive them for affiliate products. Offer up some freebies or even give out relevant and useful information about the product your recommending.
It’s also important to test the product and the product’s support. You don’t want to be caught promoting a piece of junk. Now, obviously you can’t test out absolutely everything but other’s have. What do others say about the product that have used it?
Additionally, if you aren’t quite sure how to recommend a product or have no idea what to actually say about the product, check out your competition. What are they doing to help promote the product? Who is advertising the product in Google AdWords for example and how are they doing it? Remember to keep your mind open for new ideas that you haven’t yet thought of.
